10% of our revenue goes towards Surfers Against Sewage

Set up in May 1990, and based in St Agnes, Cornwall, Surfers Against Sewage is widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading marine conservation charities. Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) today deals with a wide spectrum of marine conservation issues from marine litter to climate change. Not just surfers – not just sewage.

As a result of their work, the UK has seen massive investment in the sewerage infrastructure and much higher bathing water standards protecting us all at hundreds of locations nationwide when we do the sports and recreation we love. Today 96.9% of our beaches meet the minimum bathing water standards. In 1990 this would have been just 27%!  SAS is very proud to have played their part in bringing this positive change about for our coastlines.

Surfer and plastic pollution at Penhale Beach

SAS has made great progress on cleaning up our beaches from sewage and the cleanliness of our seas remains in the DNA of the organisation. But their new priority issue is marine plastic pollution. Working on other issues too – climate change, water quality, coastal development, but plastic pollution is huge and needs a lot of attention!

“What has always remained though is our unique identity, shaped by the same forces from which we were borne. Our shared love for and contact with the ocean. We are part of the ocean” – SAS

Sent From The Sea is proud to support Surfers Against Sewage.  Find out more about their work, and how you can support them – http://www.sas.org.uk and  facebook/SurfersAgainstSewage
